On August 26, 2026, a sudden glacial collapse triggered catastrophic flash floods in northern Nepal. Current reports indicate nearly 1,000 confirmed deaths with over 4,700 missing. Entire villages, roads, and power infrastructure have been destroyed across the Nepal–Tibet border region.
The situation remains dangerous and volatile. Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority estimates that 10,000 households urgently need humanitarian assistance. People affected by the disaster need medicines for chronic conditions, as well as first aid and wound-care supplies.
HPIC is now working with on-the-ground partners to assess the need for essential medicines and medical supplies and ensure they reach those who need them most.
