Two catastrophic earthquakes—measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude—have struck northern Venezuela in rapid succession, marking the region’s deadliest in over 125 years. A state of emergency has been declared.
The scale of impact is staggering: an estimated 9.73 million people have been affected, with approximately 530,000 exposed to severe to extreme earthquake intensity. The death toll could reach into the thousands as search and rescue teams work frantically to locate the missing.

Venezuela’s health system is overwhelmed. The surge in injuries has exceeded hospital capacity, many of which are damaged or evacuated. The hospital at the Venezuelan Red Cross headquarters was forced to close on the first night after reaching maximum capacity. Disrupted supply chains have created critical shortages of medicine and medical supplies. Immediate support is essential to save lives.
HPIC is responding now. Working through our trusted Canadian, international and local partners, we are readying emergency shipments of essential medicines and medical supplies to reach those who need them most.
Please consider helping our response. Every $10 donated provides $100 worth of life-saving medicine—turning your generosity into tenfold reach for people in crisis.
