Emergency Response Updates: March 2024 

Conflict in the Middle East 

With our ongoing efforts to respond to the conflict in Gaza, HPIC has recently mobilized a total of 10 pallets of essential medicines and 15 HMKs to send to our partners on the ground. This shipment included 47,000 treatments that will provide support to approximately 23,000 civilians in desperate need of medical aid. This shipment is valued at $462,000. The medicines will be distributed in different mobile clinics operated by our partner on the ground. 

Ongoing Hostilities in Lebanon 

In response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, HPIC has mobilized over $800,000 worth of essential medicines to Lebanon, providing treatments to over 40,000 people throughout the country. This shipment arrived in the country at the start of March and our partners have started to distribute the medicines throughout the country to clinics and hospitals who need them most. 

Protracted Refugee Crisis in Iraq 

HPIC has sent 40 HMKs, equivalent to 24,000 treatments of essential medicines valued at $250,000 to provide aid to approximately 12,000 refugees. This will assist our local partners with the ongoing refugee crisis within the country that has stemmed from civil unrest in the region. Iraq remains a priority country for HPIC and we will continue collaborating with our partners to deliver medical aid to this protracted emergency. 

Civil Unrest in Haiti 

HPIC has sent 10 HMKs with approximately 6,000 treatments of essential medicines to Haiti in response to the ongoing civil unrest and crisis within the country. The HMKs will be distributed to 10 mobile clinics in the country’s southern region. HPIC continues to monitor the situation and the immediate health needs of the population in Haiti. 

Flooding in Libya 

HPIC has sent 10 HMKs to Libya with approximately 6,000 treatments of essential medicines in response to the September flooding. The value of the shipment was approximately $60,000 and will assist those in the Tripoli region of Libya who were affected by the floods. 

War in Ukraine 

The war in Ukraine has now passed the two-year mark. HPIC continues to respond and send essential medical aid to our partners on the ground. We have sent 15,500 treatments (10 pallets) of essential medicines, valued at over $150,000 so far this year, in addition to over $30 million of medicines sent the previous two years.

Refugees in Central African Republic 

We have passed the 1-year anniversary of the conflict in Sudan and HPIC remains committed to sending medical aid to the refugees escaping the conflict to neighboring countries. HPIC has sent 10 HMKs, approximately 6,000 treatments to CAR and plans to send more in the future to assist those fleeing from the conflict. 

Natural Disasters in Ecuador 

HPIC shipped 6,900 treatments of requested medicines to Ecuador in response to the floods and earthquake that took place in the country. The medicines were distributed by our partners in the affected Alausi district of the country. 

Cholera Outbreak in Malawi 

HPIC has sent over $400,000 worth of medicines to Malawi since the start of the fiscal year, including 40 HMKs and 17,500 treatments of Doxycycline. Doxycycline is the first-line antibiotic treatment for adults and children to assist in the ongoing Cholera outbreak that stemmed from last year’s Cyclone Freddy. HPIC continues our annual commitment to send 20 HMKs to Dzaleka Refugee camp.
